WSC, WithinReach, AmeriCorps Bridge to Basics Outreach Speci

WithinReach AmeriCorps Members make a positive impact on the health of Washington communities by improving access to health care, local food programs, and transportation. Our AmeriCorps members provide system navigation, outreach, and education at food banks, health fairs, community clinics, homeless encampments and more. We help community members find programs and resources that will help meet their basic needs and put them on the path towards self-sufficiency. With the uncertainty surrounding health care reform, many Washingtonians do not understand the essential health care resources available, how to get them, or the community resources available. Many people who have health insurance do not know how to start using it to manage their health or how to access preventative care—often for the first time. Our AmeriCorps members help navigate a complex system, ensure that all individuals know how to access their health care, and help clients become self-advocates when exploring their options. At WithinReach, we believe a well-fed family is a healthy family. That’s why we also provide outreach to food insecure families in King and Snohomish counties. Washington ranks 23rd in the nation for number of residents who experience hunger, and as many as one-in-five children live in a home that struggles to put food on the table. AmeriCorps members provide underserved and culturally diverse individuals with knowledge and access to local food resources and help partner with local programs to increase spending power at farmer’s markets and feed kids in and out of school. Through direct client engagement, education, and empowerment, you can make a huge impact on health disparities and food security in Washington. This position is contingent on funding.
