US2020 BASB- BoSTEM Coordinator

The BoSTEM collaborative is led by Boston After School & Beyond (BASB) and United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley (UWMB), working to close the STEM interest and achievement gap for all Boston middle school students by 2020. Each organization is responsible for different aspects of this program, from volunteer engagement, to professional development for community-based out-of-school time programs and corporate partnerships. Using each organization’s broad network and expertise, we form new partnerships across sectors that strengthen 21st century STEM experiences to Boston public middle school students. BASB advances student learning by leveraging the strengths of program providers through a coordinated approach to community partnerships. In the BoSTEM collaborative, they are responsible for metrics, evaluation, professional development, and capacity building. UWMB serves as the collaborative’s fiscal agent, while developing new corporate partnerships and facilitating all aspects of volunteer recruitment and engagement. This includes managing the relationships between volunteers and community-based organizations, as well as working with Citizen Schools and other program partners to place long-term volunteers. By 2020, all Boston middle school students will have had STEM experiences, preparing them for post-secondary education and careers in these fields, if they so choose. We’re seeking innovators who are passionate about providing ladders of opportunity in STEM industries.
