BMVP - Collaborating for Career Preparedness

The Red Lodge Area Community Foundation connects people and builds community by catalyzing change and sharing resources to build a strong, vibrant, resilient, inclusive community. According to Feeding America 2014 there are 1,140 estimated number of food insecure individuals in Carbon County. According to US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2015 there are 335 individuals under the age of 18 at or Below poverty level. According to Montana’s Office of Public Instruction, 2016-17 Free/Reduced Eligibility Data there are 484 students who are Free/Reduced Eligible equated to 35.69% of students in Carbon County. Kids in poverty/low income situations can be more susceptible to disengagement, drop out, and risky behaviors compared to their peers. Youth internships are an opportunity to engage kids in need and connect under-supported youth to jobs and job training that benefit, support, and develop their identified needs, talents, and interests. For many of these kids, skill development opportunities like internships aren't always present and they can lack the know-how and confidence to reach out and find them on their own. To improve employability of under-supported youth by teaching, training, and experiencing a positive work place and building self-confidence by skills. Support career path development. This project will help to alleviate poverty by helping reduce the risk of high school dropout. This is done by offering at-risk students employability through professional skills development. Gaining the skills and rewards of paid internships also offer kids a reason to further pursue education and specialized training, which leads to increased income over their life and a decreased risk of living in poverty and low income situations.
