WITHDREW - BMVP - Teacher Tote Education Program

The Friends of Pompeys Pillar is a nonprofit organization with a mission to share the rich history of the national monument through educational and experiential means. The incidence of low rankings in Billings’ elementary and middle schools is indicative of the need to enhance education efforts for younger students. Ten out of twelve elementary schools listed in the Niche ranking system have achieved grades lower than A (83%); four of these schools have an average Niche ranking of C or lower (33%). Two of the three middle schools have been awarded a B ranking and the third school was ranked with a C. Lower rankings in the Niche system point to issues with student performance, low graduation rates and problems with parent and child satisfaction. Graduation rates for the three Billings high schools are at 77%, 83% and 84%. Engaging elementary and middle school students in experiential, enhanced learning systems is a key to building interest in education. Low income learners greatly benefit from augmenting and enhancing the educational experience by piquing their imagination through experiential in-class educational programming, which will assist in raising graduation rates in local schools. Students served by this project will gain a new insight into the value of learning and that through learning and education, they will be able to live better lives and break the cycle of poverty.
