WACC – WCC Youth Connections Coordinator

Whatcom Community College’s Youth Connections VISTA project aims to increase the number of disengaged, low-income youth that have access to college in Bellingham and Whatcom County. In the first year of the project, the Youth Connections Coordinator will develop a community assessment plan, develop curriculum, and cultivate partnerships with community partners in order to increase college access for out-of-school youth, homeless youth, and incarcerated youth. The VISTA will accomplish this by creating a mentorship program with a specific focus on financial literacy, navigating the college experience, increasing knowledge and development of career and academic advising, high school diploma/GED completion, and visits to college campuses. The VISTA member joins the statewide Washington Campus Compact VISTA team whose members increase the capacity of campus-community partnerships by leveraging campus resources and community assets to address the critical issues of education access and food security. Washington Campus Compact is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in our national service programs. People of color, LGBTQ individuals, persons with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
