WACC– WSU STEM Literacy Worms to Widgets Project Coordinator
The STEM Literacy: Worms to Widgets Project Coordinator (Palouse Region) will support the work of the Washington State University (WSU) Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) through the STEM Literacy: Worms to Widgets Project. The primary function of this VISTA position will be to coordinate a campus and community-based project to increase opportunities for underrepresented youth to engage in STEM programming. This VISTA position will work as a part of a team to leverage campus-community partnerships to develop opportunities for WSU students to increase STEM programming for rural youth. The VISTA member joins the statewide Washington Campus Compact VISTA team whose members increase the capacity of campus-community partnerships by leveraging campus resources and community assets to address the critical issues of education access and food security. Member Duties : In Year 1, the VISTA member will establish the foundation for the project: 1) Convene a STEM Coalition of stakeholders to align resources, 2) Create a community asset map to identify STEM resources and programming gaps, 3) Align after-school programming with state and national NextGen Science and Math curriculum standards, 4) Engage WSU students in leading STEM programming in rural schools and communities, 5) Complete a program assessment for succeeding project years.
