WACC – SFCC Career Navigator Coordinator (Pullman)
The Career Navigator Program at the Spokane Falls Community College Pullman campus will improve access, persistence, and completion of education for economically disadvantaged youth and adults in Pullman, WA. In the first year of the project at the Pullman campus, the VISTA member will work to develop and implement the program components that were successfully established in Year 1 and 2 of the Spokane project. The member will also mobilize volunteers and work to develop the campus volunteer policies and procedures. This project will contribute to higher completion rates and higher earning potential for students by connecting academic classroom learning with career interests and job preparation activities. The VISTA member joins the statewide Washington Campus Compact VISTA team whose members increase the capacity of campus-community partnerships by leveraging campus resources and community assets to address the critical issues of education access and food security. Member Duties : In Year 1, the VISTA member will establish the foundation for the project: 1) Identify and establish partnerships with community-based organizations to provide employer-engagement activities for SFCC Pullman students, 2) Create process to track partnerships and document outcomes, 3) Partner with rural high schools to implement Career Navigator Program in classrooms, 4) Recruit and train SFCC Pullman students as Peer Career Navigators, 5) Tailor current curriculum and materials to individual classroom needs, 6) Coordinate successful implementation of volunteer tracking software and create training materials for staff and community partners, 7) Coordinate days of service by planning events, mobilizing student volunteers, creating outreach materials, and documenting best practices.
