WACC – SCC STEM Project Coordinator

The STEM Coordinator will strengthen and expand a coordinated system of science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) resources and partnerships available to student members of the Math, Engineering, Science, Achievement (MESA) Program at Seattle Central College. In year 2, the VISTA member will work towards expanding our reach to STEM industries, identify student gaps in knowledge through student and faculty assessments, develop our alumni network, oversee the student center to build community among members, create leadership training, and help with putting together an industry board. As a result of these efforts, students will develop the confidence and skills needed to persist in STEM fields and develop a strong industry and alumni network, making them competitive for university transfer.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will increase student’s self-efficacy in STEM, particularly those from underrepresented and low-income groups: 1) Develop and enhance efforts to increase MESA student success. 2)Develop connections and partnerships with the external community (alumni, industry, community based organizations, universities, etc.) and enhance existing connections. 3) Assist in the creation of a MESA advisory industry board.
