MTCC - The Literacy Center of Northwest Montana
The Literacy Center of Northwest Montana provides individualized learning programs for adults, children, and families. Our goal is to empower participants by helping them develop educational, social and professional skills. The VISTA serving with this project will increase graduation and academic success rates for low-income students by developing out of school literacy programs for students in Kalispell, MT. The majority of children receiving services at the Literacy Center attend Russell, Elrod, and Peterson Elementary schools. Data provided by OPI shows that all of these schools are considered Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Children from low-income families statistically need more support to reach literacy goals. The Literacy Center project will help to meet the community needs of these low-income children by providing extra literacy programs outside of school.
