MTCC - Ravalli County Museum K-12 Museum Education

The Ravalli County Museum has a three tiered focus of art, local history and natural history. We provide a cultural venue to enrich the experiences of our community through programming and educational opportunities for people of all ages. Many rural students, including those in the Bitterroot Valley, have few opportunities to experience a museum visit that is directly related to their perspectives and learning needs and challenges. This VISTA project will reduce poverty level for Ravalli County youth by improving graduation and academic success of underserved K-12 students through educational afterschool, weekend and summer programs at the Ravalli County Museum. Data provided by the national organization, Afterschool Alliance, proves that students who attend quality after school programming make significant improvements socially and academically, resulting in improved grades and positive community engagement. Focusing on local history, natural history, and art, the Ravioli County Museum has been providing meaningful humanities and STEAM opportunities for students at all levels for nearly a decade. 60% average of the Bitterroot Valley attend college; Ravalli County Museum hopes to offer out of school educational programming to increase high school graduation and postsecondary success in the Bitterroot Valley.
