Opportunity Council - Financial Stability Summer VISTA

In Whatcom County, low-income households face an employment readiness gap as evidenced by the most recent Whatcom Prosperity Project Report (2011). 70% of respondents reported that getting or keeping a job had been hard, with 34% reporting that not having the right job skills made getting or keeping a job difficult. Additionally, of the 497 households counted in the 2016 point-in-time homeless count, one in four households reported no source of income. The SA will help directly assist clients in our vocational lab and classes, as well as in-directly by building capacity through the development of the Asset Building initiatives and outreach.
