*MTCC Summer Team Member-MT Tech

The Montana Tech Institute for Educational Opportunities is funded by grants from the US Department of Education and serves students across Montana, providing low-income and potential first-generation students with the skills and motivation to complete high school, go to college, or pursue other postsecondary school and graduate from college or postsecondary school. Student participants can spend time at summer academies held on the campus of Montana Tech during high school years and may receive limited services after their high school graduation. Four AmeriCorps Summer Members will help deliver non-cognitive skill development and academic enrichment activities in a near-peer relationship with summer academy participants increasing the students sense of self-efficacy and academic performance ultimately resulting in improved college going rates for this cohort. Two additional AmeriCorps Summer Members will help recent high school graduates prepare for their college entrance through summer social media mentoring--summer nudging.

Member Duties : Serve this summer by providing low-income and first-generation students with the skills and motivation to complete high school, go to college or pursue other postsecondary school, and graduate from college or postsecondary school. AmeriCorps Summer Members will help deliver non-cognitive skill development and academic enrichment activities in a near-peer relationship with summer academy participants, increasing the students’ sense of self-efficacy and academic performance, ultimately resulting in improved college going rates for this cohort. Near-peer mentors are expected to contribute to the development of motivation in students by demonstrating an interest in them as individuals, encouraging them to work toward their potential, informing them of educational opportunities, and by serving as an example of a successful student. AmeriCorps summer members will also help recent high school graduates prepare for their college entrance through summer social media mentoring.
