Capacity Building for Great Families 2020

VISTA members will be placed with Great Families 2020 to help build program capacity at United Way and its subgrantees. Members will be used in a variety of roles in the program cycle of planning, development, implementation and evaluation. VISTA members placed at United Way will develop and implement training models and content for peer-to-peer learning among subgrantee staff and will develop and implement models and practices for the effective operation of various partner groups (e.g., an advisory group or stakeholders group, a funders group, etc.). Peer learning structures and regular training opportunities will be developed for both direct service providers and management staff to facilitate professional development in effective two generation practice (including best practices in core ECE and FES interventions) and to develop innovative cross-program and cross-agency collaborative practices. VISTA members placed with subgrantees will perform the following capacity building roles: Identify, in conjunction with the third party evaluator, United Way’s strategic information team and subgrantees’ evaluation leads, subgrantees’ data collection, sharing and reporting needs to competently participate in the GF 2020 evaluation plan; develop a training and technical assistance plan to address these needs; and coordinate plan implementation by either securing expert resources or directly providing consultative services that are aligned with their skill set. Members will also develop and implement family engagement practices. By the end of the VISTA project year, United Way and the subgrantees will have adopted the tools and practices developed by the members’ capacity building work described above. Incumbent staff will assume responsibility for managing what works.
