UWTC VISTA - Training and Volunteer Coordinator

Pierce County Medical Reserve Corps is a growing and well established unit of medical and non-medical volunteers. As non-profit organization with several years of experience, we support our communities of focus or vulnerable populations in day-to-day health events, as well as respond to emergency events. PCMRC is a board-driven, organization, with many partners and public health responsibilities, managing over 500 members, collectively emphasizing the need for a comprehensive Concept of Operations plan that outlines our response activities. This plan has been drafted, and the Pierce County Medical Reserve Corps is in need of personnel to implement the Operations section of the plan, including the establishment of a training and exercise program for members to include plan elements, the assignment of Incident Command System roles to volunteers, and role-specific training of volunteers. By addressing this need, the Pierce County Medical Reserve Corps’ response capabilities will be greatly enhanced.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will become an integral part of the PCMRC Leadership Board. They will work with the board in identifying priority vulnerable populations that we serve. In outlining those populations, the VISTA will begin building appropriate training that supports MRC members in serving the health of poverty-stricken areas. Our response missions will be identified, to include our daily and response activities serving low-income and uninsured. Training development will encompass those mission priority areas, and be developed and delivered to our membership, building the capacity of our members and response to our communities. The VISTA will help in recruitment and retention of medical and non-medical volunteers, driven by the priority missions we outline.
