MCD, Environmental Education Coordinator

Surrounded by the Olympic National Forest and the Puget Sound, Mason County is rich in natural resources. Famous for our oysters, clams, Christmas trees, and timber exports, residents of this area depend on the management of our local resources. It is vital to promote the sustainable use, conservation and restoration of the natural resources in our community. The Mason Conservation District works with individuals, landowners, tribes, government agencies and local businesses to promote the sustainable use, conservation and protection of natural resources in Mason County. The AmeriCorps member will engage youth and adults through a variety of educational activities including playing a critical supporting role in coordination and implementation of our environmental education events, the promotion of sustainable farming practices and native plants through workshops and planting projects. The AmeriCorps member will also develop landowner outreach and communication materials. Conservation districts have an ongoing mission to provide technical assistance to help landowners solve natural resource problems and to provide environmental education for the community. The AmeriCorps member will work with Mason Conservation District staff in an environmental education capacity to encourage behavioral change that improves water quality and stewardship in the County. This position is contingent on funding.
