Food Literacy Project Summer Associate

The Food Literacy Project provides farm-based experiential education and entrepreneurial youth development programs that bring the Field-to-Fork experience to life for local youth. Our mission is to inspire a new generation to build healthy relationships with food, farming, and the land. The VISTA Summer Associates will help propel the Food Literacy Project’s bold vision for a community with a just and sustainable food system that cultivates healthy citizens by serving as leaders in our Truck Farm and Youth Community Agriculture (YCAP) programming. Truck Farm is our mobile, edible learning experience built into the bed of a pickup truck, which allows the Food Literacy Project to bring a small piece of Oxmoor Farm, our dynamic 8-acre outdoor classroom located in Hikes Point, into the community. YCAP brings a diverse group of underserved teens from across Louisville together to plant, cultivate, harvest, cook, and distribute fresh produce. The Summer Associates will serve alongside our Farm-Based Educators and under the direction of our Program Director to implement ongoing transformational experiences for youth and families on the farm and in our community. Throughout the growing season, Food Literacy Project engages community members with their food system while connecting families with fresh vegetables to combat disproportionate food access and health disparities in underserved Louisville neighborhoods.
