Nisqually Land Trust, Volunteer Coordinator
As the Nisqually Land Trust Volunteer Coordinator, the AmeriCorps member will focus on engaging South Puget Sound community members in implementing the mission of the Land Trust – acquiring and managing critical lands to permanently benefit the water, wildlife, and people of the Nisqually River Watershed. This watershed stretches from glaciers on the southwest side of Mount Rainier to the Nisqually Reach in South Puget Sound. The Land Trust is a local non-profit organization, with six staff members, that protects and manages almost 6,000 acres in the watershed. Management of these properties includes monitoring, maintenance, and implementation of process-based habitat restoration projects. The AmeriCorps member tasks will include recruiting individual volunteers and community partner organizations; training and supporting volunteers involved in community outreach activities and environmental stewardship activities; identifying new volunteer opportunities; developing and implementing volunteer procedures and training workshops; hosting a volunteer recognition event; and maintaining the volunteer database. In general, the AmeriCorps member will serve a standard weekday schedule; however, the member will be expected to participate in 1-2 weekend volunteer activities each month. The primary service location will be at the Land Trust office. Stewardship volunteer activities will occur on Land Trust properties throughout the watershed and outreach volunteer activities will occur at sites throughout the South Puget Sound region. The AmeriCorps member will need to be self-motivated, highly organized and able to collaborate on multiple tasks. In addition, the member should have good record-keeping skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office software; good communication skills, experience in volunteer administration, and an interest in natural resources management and environmental science. This position is contingent on funding.
