E3.17 Lincoln Park Leadership Development Coordinator
 
 
 
Purpose of Position: In order to build the ability for residents to positively impact their own low-income neighborhood and reduce poverty, the Big Water Resilience Corps VISTA member will build and expand partnerships while working directly with residents to develop their leadership skills in the up-and-coming Lincoln Park neighborhood of Duluth, MN. Specific Duties: Job Relationships External: 1. Use community organizing skills to identify current projects, programs, and organizations working in Lincoln Park. 2. Survey residents and important stakeholders regarding needs in the neighborhood. 3. Develop positive relationships with residents and stakeholders. 4. Build curriculum to advance leadership skills of low-income community members. 5. Recruit leadership cohort members. 6. Develop personal leadership plan template and assist individuals accomplish their goals. 7. Develop mentorships for leadership cohort members. 8. Conduct research into best practices 9. Prepare reports to present findings, conclusions, and recommendations. 10. Present at public meetings. 11. Identify and address barriers to participation in decision-making by low-income individuals. 12. Attend staff meetings and meetings of Boards & Commissions. Internal: 1. Work with CEO and Director of Partnership Development to define duties and develop a workplan. 2. Attend VISTAs training, in-service opportunities and community programming opportunities. Qualifications Required 1. Respectful and enthusiastic communicator interested in building the skills of others. 2. Use of Microsoft Office Suite and general familiarity with social media. 3. Organizational skills, attention to details 4. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations 5. Interpersonal and communication skills 6. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team 7. Familiarity with issues of low income families 8. Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.

Member Duties : Engage and support economically disadvantaged and vulnerable residents in leadership training. 1. Complete a landscape analysis of active organizations and residents involved in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. 2. Survey residents on neighborhood revitalization strategies, potential projects, and capacity building support needs. 3. Recruit residents to participate in a 6-month leadership cohort from active organizations involved in the landscape analysis and interested residents not yet engaged. Build capacity in residents to complete community-identified neighborhood improvement projects. 1. Create leadership training curriculum to build engagement and project management skills. 2. Conduct research on funding opportunities and compensation best practices for low-income community members to participation in community decision-making. 3. Develop a communications strategy to assist low-income community members and leadership cohort participants.
