Silicon Valley HealthCorps- Food For Everyone Coordinator
 
 
 
Description of Silicon Valley HealthCorp: Silicon Valley HealthCorp is a collaboration between the Health Trust and 3 partner agencies to mobilize seven VISTA members throughout San Jose. Silicon Valley HealthCorps VISTAs will work at our partner sites to increase the availability and affordability of fresh, healthy food through enhancing existing food distribution models and developing capacity for low-income residents’ to grow their own produce. Silicon Valley HealthCorps VISTA is currently recruiting members for 2017-2018. All positions are full-time, year-long positions beginning in August. Description of the Health Trust: The vision of The Health Trust is a healthier Silicon Valley for everyone. Our work includes direct services, grant making and policy advocacy. It is organized under three initiatives: Healthy Eating, Healthy Aging and Healthy Living. Our work also includes Destination Home, a public-private partnership galvanizing our Community to end homelessness in Santa Clara County.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will assist with implementation of the Health Trust's Food for Everyone strategy, which aims to increase food security for the most vulnerable populations in San Jose, including low-income seniors and individuals experiencing housing instability. The VISTA's main duties will fall into two categories: bringing food assistance to households in supportive and affordable housing, and increasing the number of meals available to low-income seniors and individuals who are homeless. (S)he will be responsible for building and maintaining partnerships with local organizations to coordinate food assistance at housing sites. The VISTA will also work with Health Trust staff to recruit restaurants to the CalFresh Restaurant Meals Program (RMP). This will include door-to-door outreach; management of communications with restaurants; and tracking and evaluation of the recruitment process.
