VISTA Summer Associate - CHOC Housing Youth Program

CHOC’s mission is to create stable, vibrant and healthy communities by creating sustainable economic development opportunities and developing and operating affordable, program-enriched housing for families, seniors and people with special needs. For over 30 years as a nonprofit affordable housing developer, CHOC has improved and strengthened communities by providing quality housing, inclusive of comprehensive services for individuals, families and seniors in a tri-county service area. As a community housing development organization (CHDO), CHOC serves over 1,400 families that are very-low, low and moderate income (LMI). CHOC’s programs focus on building strong communities, enhancing community involvement, while connecting residents with community partners and resources. With the majority of our families eligible for free or reduced lunches during the school year, during the summer months our families face a financial burden of increased food costs in feeding a daily lunch. With limited resources, our youth and families struggle with access to a daily nutritious meal, and our Summer Food Service Program aims to fill that hunger gap for children, and the ease the financial burden for families. In addition to a daily nutritious lunch, sites offer a youth enrichment program that offers opportunities for literacy activities, skill building, and fun recreational time. This summer learning opportunity is designed to address summer reading and learning loss and enhance youth development, academic performance and skill building. VISTA Summer Associates will assist in supporting the day-to-day operations and capacity building for these Summer Food and Summer Enrichment programs that serve low-income youth residing in affordable housing communities. Available sites to serve children and youth are located in Sacramento County (south sacramento & north sacramento) and Yolo County (Davis).
