Youth Program Coordinator-Center for Hmong Art & Talent (CSP

CHAT's mission is to illuminate the Hmong American experience, nurture young talents and offer a platform to exercise the tools they have learned. Having a space to reflect and feel safe is paramount to the development of young people by helping them focus on personal growth and acquire tools to reach their full potential. Our programs help provide confidence and teach tools for success in life and achievement/education. CHAT is located in Frogtown and we draw from the youth population there primarily. While St. Paul's population remain flat, the Frogtown/Thomas-Dale area of St. Paul lost 13 percent of its population between 2000 and 2010 – the largest decline among the city’s planning districts. This area is also the poorest in St. Paul, with median household income of just over $28,000, and it is among the most racially diverse. About 60 percent of its households are occupied by renters and affordable housing still a challenge. We strive to use the arts and our youth programs to lead youth of color to a more prosperous life in school and their vocation. This VISTA project is a creative and organic project that harnesses the thought and creativity of our youth artists to develop our Youth Leadership Cohort. **This position is part of the City of St. Paul VISTA Cohort. This cohort provides a learning community of 20 fellow VISTA members all serving within Saint Paul. We provide bi-weekly professional development training and additional support throughout the year.
