After School Program Developer-TCHDC (CSP)

Twin Cities Housing Development Corporation (TCHDC) is a small but impactful non-profit developer of high quality affordable multi-family housing for low income families living in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. TCHDC’s mission is “to provide high quality affordable rental housing to families, respectful of the neighborhoods in which the housing is located.” Not only does TCHDC develop housing, we go beyond housing to provide programs and supportive services close to home that help residents succeed academically, economically, and socially. TCHDC operates an on-site community center at Liberty Plaza located in St. Paul. Liberty Plaza is a highly culturally diverse community of families and individuals; it is home for 173 low income households, including 280 children under age 18. Today over 85% of Liberty Plaza’s residents are first generation immigrants from the north and east African nations of Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and the Sudan. Families at Liberty Plaza place a high value on educational success for their children. To meet the interests and expectations of parents and kids, the community center offers seven after-school and summer programs for school age children and youth (grades K-12): homework help, reading tutoring, two hands-on STEM programs, two creative arts programs, and a youth mentoring program for teens. The central goal of this VISTA project is to build our capacity for engaging the community in after-school programs (engagement of volunteers, parents/caregivers, and new program sites). This VISTA project affords a motivated outgoing individual an opportunity to make a visible and lasting positive impact on the lives of children, youth and their families. **This position is part of the City of St. Paul VISTA Cohort. This cohort provides a learning community of 20 fellow VISTA members all serving within Saint Paul. We provide bi-weekly professional development training and additional support throughout the year.
