Job Readiness Mountain View Library (Anchorage)
 
 
 
The Branch Adult Training Coordinator VISTA will support the development and implementation of a job skills and education program at the Mountain View Library, integrating with and supporting the goals of its current partners—the United Way of Anchorage, the Anchorage community Land Trust and the Alaska Department of Labor. This library is staffed by a Branch Manager, Youth Services Librarian and three full-time support staff. The successful candidate will build on a burgeoning project to develop the Mountain View Library into an adult learning center with an emphasis on job skills and readiness classes as well as ESL classes. With the key components already in place through existing programming models, the VISTA will recruit skilled volunteers from community organizations and the general public to implement and maintain educational and enrichment goals and build a greater sense of community. Benefits include: Monthly living allowance ($1,333), relocation costs ($0.34/mile up to $1000) and settling in allowance ($550), health benefits, child care assistance, training, and an Education Award ($5,815) or cash stipend ($1,500).

Member Duties : The successful VISTA will: *recruit, train and manage a core of adult volunteers to implement and sustain a mentor-ship and education program for teens at the Mountain View Library. *build relationships with community partners. seek potential funding sources through grant writing. *develop the Mountain View Library into a dynamic learning center for adults and teens seeking language, computer and job search skills as well as personal enrichment. *design and develop sustainable structures that can be duplicated at other branch library locations and integrate existing models and resources available within the library system. *connect with and support the goals of current library partners, including the United Way of Anchorage, the Anchorage community Land Trust and the Alaska Department of Labor.
