Program Specialist - Ka Joog

Ka Joog is a nationally recognized Somali nonprofit organization tailored towards enriching the lives of Somali American youth by utilizing the positive elements of education, mentoring, employment, and the arts. Established in 2007 by a group of Somali young adults, Ka Joog focuses its efforts on encouraging Somali youth to “ka Joog” or “stay away” from negative influences that can be detrimental to their development and future. Ka Joog offers programs in the arts, mentoring, tutoring, and job readiness training to direct youth towards higher education, civic involvement, and a volunteer commitment for the community. The Program Specialist will advance Ka Joog’s mission through a variety of capacity-building activities including: student-parent engagement; fundraising and development; and evaluation. The VISTA member will learn a variety of valuable skills necessary for running a nonprofit while providing critical support that will result in a long-term positive impact on the organization.
