MCN VISTA Leader 2018

The mission of the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN) is to inform, promote, connect and strengthen individual nonprofit organizations and the nonprofit sector. MCN builds the leadership and management capacity of nonprofits across the state and in skills of nonprofit management and governance, program development, evaluation, financial management, and fundraising, allowing these organizations to remain sustainable, reliable, and effective agents of change in their community. Yet for many reasons, small organizations serving communities of color and immigrants and refugees are frequently not able to, or intentionally chose not to, benefit from these resources. These small organizations commonly lack formal relationships with key funding institutions and are removed from the information resources and policy discussions that would bolster their work. The recent challenges of several small culturally focused nonprofits are examples of this operational fragility and the resulting cultural and community loss experienced when valued community-based organizations are forced to close their doors. The VISTA Leader serving with the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits will support the growth and success of the MCN’s VISTA program as it supports the success of 19 VISTA members placed in culturally-specific nonprofits across the Twin Cities Metro. This goal will be accomplished by delivering professional development opportunities, recruiting VISTA members for the 2018-2019 service year, providing technical assistance to VISTA members and supervisors, and developing the groundwork for the additional growth of the program in the coming year.
