Strong City/IRC Silver Spring: Mentorship Project
 
 
 
The global mission of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is to respond to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and help people to survive and rebuild their lives. The IRC acts as a refugee resettlement agency with the goal of providing the area’s refugees with the opportunities and resources they need to thrive in their new homes. This position is sponsored by Strong City Baltimore in Baltimore, MD; and the VISTA member will serve with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Silver Spring, MD. Strong City sponsors 30 VISTA projects at nonprofit, government, and community organizations throughout Baltimore City and Maryland. Established in 1969 to help neighborhoods become safer, better places to live, Strong City's mission is to build and strengthen neighborhoods and people. Strong City will provide support to the IRC Silver Spring and the VISTA member throughout the year, including recruitment, training, resources, and professional development opportunities, and meetings.

Member Duties : Project goal… To achieve language learning outcomes and employability improve among the clients who are connected with family mentors. The VISTA will: 1) Develop the program build out, module development, and create performance metrics to gauge quality control (including measures to track program outcomes and efficacy). 2) Conduct mentor recruitment, matching and trainings 3) Adjust the program components as needed to streamline processes; ongoing 4) Utilizing existing volunteer base and community support, strategize ways to build out these networks to ensure sustaining volunteer/community support.
