Summer Associate Mutual Housing California Summer Lunch Pgm
 
 
 
Mutual Housing California owns and operates more than 1,000 homes in 19 multi-family communities in Sacramento and Yolo Counties, serving approximately 4,000 low-income residents. Overall almost 42% of our nearly 4,000 residents are children. Sixty percent of all households are families with children, and 39% of those are single parent households. Eighty eight percent of all our resident households live on incomes below 50% of area median income and 56% of those households live below the poverty line. Mutual Housing California houses a diverse population, mirroring the low-income population of Sacramento and Yolo counties. During summer vacation, with school no longer in session, many children who struggle with access to nutritional food, lose access to meals for free or reduced prices served during school time. Children residing in our Mutual Housing Communities do not need to go hungry this summer because summer nutrition programs can help fill the hunger gap. Mutual Housing California is committed to ensuring that during the summer time, and in partnership with United Way California Capital Region, we will provide youth with a nutritional meal at seven (7) of our affordable housing communities. Nutritional meals will be served to youth at each site. After completing the meal, youth will have an opportunity to participate in enrichment activities that will include strategies to improve brain development through reading aloud, reading and/or sketching and other enrichment activities that will be coordinated.

Member Duties : Summer Associates will be assigned to one of seven (7) affordable housing communities located in Sacramento County, they include: Mutual Housing on the Greenway, Mutual Housing at Lemon Hill, Victory Town Homes, Mutual Housing at River Garden, Mutual Housing at Norwood, Glen Ellen Mutual Housing Community, and Mutual Housing at Foothilll Farms. The Summer Associate play a key role to help increase participation in our summer meal and enrichment activities program(s). He/she will use social media, paper media, phone calls or simply knock on doors to raise awareness and encourage youth to participate in our Summer Food Service Program. He/she will be instrumental in developing a tracking system for food delivery (Monday-Friday) and develop a reading book lending library program. He/she will also play a key role in identifying and leveraging additional reading/enrichment resources from various community agencies in Sacramento County.
