Metro Parks Volunteer Office Program Coordinator VISTA

To increase volunteer utilization in Louisville Metro Parks, specifically in our community centers and our Adopt-A- Park program with priority given to those parks and facilities that serve lower income neighborhoods. This will occur through the identification of best practices in similar programming throughout the United States. The outcomes of this will be increased utilization of volunteers with an emphasis on neighborhood-based recruitment and involvement. When neighbors who utilize the parks and recreational programming available near their homes volunteer, safety of parks is increased. Neighbors then share ownership in the upkeep of service sites and green spaces. This, in turn, provides an improved and safer atmosphere for children utilizing these facilities. This new approach to identifying neighborhood volunteers will be sustained through opportunities for volunteers to assume ever greater leadership roles. Additionally, data collection and tracking of activities by our VISTA will enhance our ability for continued expansion and growth of volunteer utilization and community engagement in Metro Parks services and facilities. The VISTA will build on the policies, processes, and outreach tools toward expanded recruitment of volunteers toward an increased utilization by community center staff. The VISTA will also increase utilization of volunteers in the Adopt-A-Park program and collaborate with other VISTA members to increase partnership.
