Harvest Against Hunger SVA NWH

Community collaboration is fundamental to developing and sustaining successful F2FB initiatives. Through individual consultations, regional workshops, and conference calls, Growing Connections seeks to facilitate the development of community relationships that increase the amount of fresh, nutritious food to clients and bolster the hunger relief system across the state. The Growing Connections Produce Portal is a Fresh-to-Food Program (F2FP) initiative meant to connect growers with hunger relief agencies in an easy and straightforward way. A grower creates a listing when they have produce available for donation or for sale. A food program’s volunteer or staff can see listings in their area and respond. The SVA will serve with the Harvest Against Hunger Capacity VISTA in Seattle at Northwest Harvest's Cherry Street location. Harvest Against Hunger (HAH) is a program of Rotary First Harvest. HAH acts as a program incubator and utilizes a team of Harvest VISTA to work with farmers to optimize processes to build sustainable gleaning programs that have minimal impact on their business model. This includes coordinating volunteer groups to glean and harvest produce, addressing issues and challenges related to supply chain management – like the transportation and distribution of gleaned produce. All gleaned produce, which is often nutritionally dense and locally grown, is distributed to food insecure populations through our food bank partners.
