The UMB Community Engagement Center (CEC) gives West Baltimore a place to access an abundance of services that promote neighborhood and economic development. It’s also a place that brings the University and community together in scholarship aimed at solving complex and persistent problems that diminish residents’ quality of life. It is the vision of the University of Maryland, Office of Community Engagement that in consultation with representatives of our surrounding communities as well as individual neighbors, the Center will be able to provide: Health Resources Exercise classes Health screenings Treatment referrals Senior health Means to Health disparities and social justice Student and Community Learning Community Schools Mentoring and Career Exploration Tutoring Guest Lectures Afterschool programming Youthworks programming Building Community Capacity Job Readiness Workshops Personal Finance Workshop Legal Advice UMB Job Hub Community Leadership Development Strengthening Neighborhoods Community Equity and Development Neighborhood Mapping Mapping the Social Determinants of Health Community Meals

Member Duties : Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, and the Executive Director for Strategic Initiatives and Community Partnerships, the VISTA will Develop public events that allow CEC staff to obtain community input (from neighbors, k-12 representatives, community leaders & faith leaders) regarding they types of services and programs our community feels UMB should be providing through its new Community Engagement Center. These public events may include but are not limited to: monthly community meals, food markets, and afterschool programs. Determine, along with the community engagement team, what types of aforementioned services and programming requests are appropriate and within the purview of the campus. Develop partnerships with the non-profit, government agencies, and philanthropic communities that will allow UMB to offer programming requested by our neighbors Seek funding to enable continued service provision going forward
