C4C Volunteer and Community Engagement Specialist (CSP)

Cycles for Change (C4C) is a community bike shop focused on building a diverse and empowered community of bicyclists. C4C offers a variety of programs supporting people from low-income, women/trans/femme, and indigenous and people of color communities in using bicycles as a tool for affordable transportation, healthy living, and climate justice.C4C’s youth program engages approximately 20 youth annually in a year-long program engaging young people as bicycle mechanics, educators, and ambassadors promoting bicycling in their community. The youth apprenticeship program improves youths’ academic success and college readiness through mentoring and peer support, trains them in accessing jobs in the growing bicycling industry, and helps them to engage their peers and families to use bicycles as a tool for affordable, reliable transportation. When youth have access to transportation, they have access to school and employment. The VISTA member with Cycles for Change will help the organization strengthen its volunteer engagement, retention, and outreach. Volunteers help the organization repair bikes, staff Open Shop shifts, raise money, and represent the organization at community events. The VISTA member will work directly with program coordinators and the Program Director to strengthen practices and protocols for how we engage and retain volunteers to deepen the organization’s impact on our neighborhood. This position is part of the City of St. Paul VISTA Cohort. This cohort provides a learning community of 20 fellow VISTA members all serving within Saint Paul. We provide bi-weekly professional development training and additional support throughout the year.
