2017-18 Volunteer Coordinator (826 Chicago)
 
 
 
826 National will work with Corps 18 volunteers to build the organization’s capacity to work with underserved youth in order to develop essential writing and creative thinking skills that lead to academic success. Corps 18 volunteers will support volunteer recruitment, program development, and organizational capacity building in seven different writing and tutoring centers located in seven urban areas across the country (San Francisco, Ann Arbor/Detroit, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, and New York City). Additionally, 826 National will deploy AmeriCorps*VISTA members to work directly in our centers to provide for the sustainability of volunteer recruitment, training, and retention efforts; conduct development activities, and support in-school and on-site program and program expansion efforts to provide field trips, scholarships and summer programs for under-resourced youth.

Member Duties : VISTA member will develop and sustain systems for volunteer onboarding and screening processes to maintain trained volunteer corps. Coordinate volunteer data, including upkeep of volunteer calendar and hour tracking, to ensure individualized attention (i.e. low student to volunteer ratios) for youth programs. Member will also Identify additional resources to improve volunteer program that supports urban, low-income youth through after-school tutoring and writing programs. Lastly, member will build awareness about 826CHI volunteer program through media and outreach events and support volunteer recognition events and special initiatives to ensure sustained volunteer corps and continued free programs for youth.
