AZ Refugee Resettlement - Services to Older Refugees

The Arizona Refugee Resettlement Program (RRP) VISTA Project’s mission is to support refugees’ effective resettlement in Arizona. Older refugees face a wide variety of challenges in achieving self-sufficiency. They come to Arizona from more than 50 countries that represent 50 different languages and cultures. Once older refugees arrive in the U.S., challenges faced by the refugee population as a whole may be compounded by the effects of aging, making older refugees acutely vulnerable to poverty and neglect. To ensure the older refugees in Phoenix have the support and services they need to gain citizenship and successfully integrate into their new Arizona home; a VISTA member will help support the Services to Older Refugees Program at the Phoenix Area Agency on Aging. After becoming familiar with refugee services and the older adult services networks in Phoenix, the VISTA will develop a one-on-one tutoring program for older refugees to help them succeed in their efforts to become a U.S. Citizen. This assignment will be best served by a candidate who has excellent community outreach techniques, strong written and verbal communications skills, project development experience, an intercultural awareness and an interest in developing solutions that will benefit refugees as they resettle into their new country. Other language skills and English teaching experience are a plus. Reliable transportation is a must. If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of Arizona's older refugees, please apply today. We will select the candidate by August 1, 2018. Please submit your application promptly for priority consideration.
