NYC VISTA-Community Engagement and Partnerships (NYC ACS)

The Office of Community Engagement and Partnerships (OCEP) works collaboratively with community residents, leaders, faith institutions, fatherhood providers, schools and other public and private stakeholders to (1) promote goodwill and help deepen the community’s awareness of ACS’ programs, services and campaigns, (2) connect the general public and vulnerable children and families to an array of community supports offered by ACS’ contract agencies, (3) organize and convene the community through ACS’ 11 Community Partnership Program (CPP) networks, and (4) build new partnerships – local and citywide – that help to support child safety, permanency and well-being. OCEP’s most established effort is the Community Partnership Program (CPP), which was launched in 2007. At present, CPP organizing and programs are active in 11 New York City community districts. CPPs are a reflection of a shared commitment between the City and local communities to the children and families of New York City. CPPs organize diverse stakeholders, build their capacity to support and stabilize families, and engage them with ACS by working on community programs and the joint-planning of policy and practice. CPP coalitions engage a diverse range of public and private partners to organize community resources to support families. They conduct community education and outreach through a variety of local events, including resource fairs, support groups, trainings and workshops. CPPs facilitate service referrals among members and with ACS programs. Two core program areas including the recruitment and training of Community Representatives that join Family Team Conferences to help engage the parent(s) in the conferencing process by encouraging them to articulate their perspective and suggesting local resources that can address the family’s needs. CPPs also recruit Visit Hosts and Visit Coaches that participate in family visits with children who have been placed in foster care.
