NYC VISTA- Students In Temporary Housing (NYC DOE)
 
 
 
Community Schools make education more relevant to help students find their passion by integrating academics, health, youth development, and family engagement. Bringing schools and partners together to create new opportunities and real results, we foster collaboration within a community to build something better for its students, its families, and its future. These VISTA members will serve to reduce chronic absenteeism for students in temporary housing at 20 pilot Community Schools.

Member Duties : The Students in Temporary Housing VISTAs will build the capacity of Community School Directors to support students in temporary housing through the following activities: visits to schools to provide technical assistance, training schools on the New Visions Data Sorter to identify Students in Temporary Housing in their data so that students can be connected with services, support schools to host workshops and trainings at schools to inform families on community resources and work with the Director of Students in Temporary Housing programming to create and facilitate trainings for master of social work interns in Community Schools on best practices on supporting Students in Temporary Housing populations. VISTAs will also create connections with shelters to ensure seamless delivery of services from school to shelter through shelter visits to bridge connections and partnerships. They will nurture existing partnerships and establish new ones to support students in temporary housing.
