Community Schools make education more relevant to help students find their passion by integrating academics, health, youth development, and family engagement. Bringing schools and partners together to create new opportunities and real results, we foster collaboration within a community to build something better for its students, its families, and its future. This VISTA position will serve to reduce chronic absenteeism at Community Schools by helping schools foster a culture of data-driven decision-making to meet student needs. They will create training resources on data tools to support schools with attendance improvement, serve as a help desk for community school staff in adopting data tools, and analyze data. This member will also work with United Way to create an asset map to support schools with drawing on community resources to support student needs to bolster attendance.

Member Duties : The Data Center VISTA will develop a monthly newsletter to distribute to all Community Schools with tips and tricks for using the data sorter and best practices around data driven decision-making. They will also develop training materials and manage and maintain the Data Sorter page of the OCS website. They coach and provide technical assistance around the Data Sorter to Community School Directors and analyze data to inform OCS’s priorities and monitor progress. This member will also work with United Way to create an asset map to support schools with leveraging community resources to bolster student attendance. They will conduct online research to better understand the causes of chronic absenteeism and to identify resources available to address those causes. They will conduct community canvassing to document resources and will prepare and present content for a series of training videos for Community School Directors and OCS senior staff instructing them on how to use the tool.
