NYC VISTA-Office of Child Support Enforcement (NYC HRA)

The New York City Office of Child Support Enforcement—part of the Department of Social Services’ Human Resources Administration (HRA)—puts children first by helping parents provide for the economic and social well-being, health, and stability of their children. OCSE offers child support services to all custodial and noncustodial parents (both fathers and mothers), as well as guardians and caretakers, regardless of income or immigration status. Our services include: •assistance with locating noncustodial parents •establishing legal fatherhood •establishing child support and medical support orders •collecting and distributing child support payments •modifying and enforcing child support orders •helping noncustodial parents manage their orders through programs to reduce debt, align orders to current income, and, when needed, connect them to employment. To apply for child support services, any mother, father, or guardian who cares for a child can go the Family Court in the borough they live in. Parents who receive cash assistance are automatically referred to our Borough Offices for services. The child support program offers a range of valuable services to noncustodial parents, including help with: •Suspended driver’s licenses or professional licenses •Lowering or even eliminating child support debt owed to the government •Changing an existing child support order •Finding a job •Paying current or past-due child support using a credit card. We do not address divorce, custody, or visitation, though we do refer clients to outside mediation services.
