2017 Northwest Compass

The Northwest Compass Food Connection Program provides emergency relief for people who lack sufficient food and nutrition to meet their daily needs. We assist people in the Suburban Cook County who are facing food insecurity, lead discussion on hunger in the Northwest Suburban community, and strengthen the anti-hunger movement through collaboration and capacity-building with local food pantries. The VISTA member will support innovative program focused on extending services and hour of operation to alleviate food insecurity for youth, seniors and veterans as well as to promote healthy nutrition and its effect on improved health. The efforts put forth by the Summer Associate will increase access to resources and positive nutrition outcomes for youth, seniors, low-income and food insecure clients in general. This work will ultimately better the food pantry’ capacity to provide life-changing programs for the communities served.

Member Duties : Food Connection VISTA will: (1) Support the day-to-day operations of the Summer Food Connection Program (SFCP). (2) Research and present a report detailing three specific, programmatic changes the program could make to improve its efficiency or efficacy.
