NYC VISTA-Community Guardian Programs (NYC HRA)
 
 
 
The NYC Department of Social Services’ Human Resources Administration (HRA)/Adult Protective Services (APS) is contracted with 3 Community Guardian Programs to act as a guardian on behalf of approximately 2000 clients who are unable to manage their own affairs, with regard to matters of property, finance, health care or social service needs because of a mental impairment. The VISTA member will help develop training materials and curriculum, and build capacity for our unit to train the Community Guardian Programs. He/ She will work in collaboration with the training unit and the Regional Director overseeing the Community Guardian Programs. The training materials will be used to provide basic, as well as, best practices trainings, to assure the safety and well-being of our clients.

Member Duties : VISTA will: •Become familiar with Community Guardian Policies, Procedures and regulations •Assess current training material available for Community Guardian Programs •Identify strengths/challenges of current training materials •Create/revise policies, procedures, and documents to improve efficacy/sustainability of training system •Work with Regional and Training directors to establish work plan for development of trainings for Community Guardian Programs •Develop training resources and evaluation tools with assistance of Training Director •Support implementation of trainings, assist with classroom training for all 80+ Community Guardian Social Service staff, measure training success, and conduct Train the Trainer sessions to assure project sustainability •Conduct focus group sessions/other meetings to incorporate staff feedback into future training sessions •Establish a library of Community Guardian procedures/training materials, ensuring staff may easily obtain reference materials
