*MTCC AmeriCorps Team Member Zootown Arts

The Zootownarts Team Members will support and expand arts education activities for Missoula youth while providing safe, after-school, and summer space to learn, build confidence, and positive relationships. Studies show that youth who have access to regular arts education opportunities develop skills and brain power to perform better academically across the board and are more likely to succeed in school. They will assist with summer camps in art and music education for Missoula youth, and to develop and implement free art projects to bring to events in Missoula and engage Missoula youth in positive, formative, creative activities. They will assist with curriculum development and engaging youth in music and art. They will expose youth to the ZACC gallery and discuss the artwork as well as introduce youth to professional artists. The team member will also help youth explore career options in the arts, and be a positive mentor for youth in our programs. ZACC’s art camps are designed to include a mentorship component. Along with doing art, the member will take opportunities to build relationships with students and model healthy lifestyles and help build confidence in youth to pursue the arts as a career. Art and music education helps expand youth’s ability to think creatively thus having more success in all areas of school. Arts education also builds the self-confidence it takes to not be afraid to fail.
