MNA 2017 - Ferris State University-Mecosta Osceola ISD
 
 
 
As a VISTA with Ferris State University-Big Rapids, you’ll partner with the Mecosta Osceola Intermediate School District to bring financial literacy programming to two high-need, rural high schools. You will work collaboratively with MOISD staff to adapt current Project NorthStar financial literacy programs to fit the needs of a rural population. In Mecosta County, 29.6% of children under 17 live in poverty. Mecosta is also a county that ranks in the top 10 for highest poverty levels overall in the state. What money there is needs to be managed wisely, and the VISTA will be instrumental in bringing programs to help low-income children and families know what to do with their money. Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA) is a statewide nonprofit organization that serves its nonprofit members to advance their missions. MNA's vision is that Michigan's nonprofit sector be a vital leader in building and sustaining thriving communities, and MNA believes that active, engaged volunteers are imperative.

Member Duties : • Connect with staff from Ferris State University and MOISD to learn about current resources available. • Plan and facilitate financial literacy workshops to improve the financial literacy awareness of participants and families at the in-school and out-of-school sites partnering with local financial institutions and employers. • Develop a service learning project at MOISD schools revolving around financial literacy. • Build and maintain resources to increase organizational capacity by creating communications materials.
