SerVermont - United Way of Windham County

The mission of the United Way of Windham County is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of the community. Working with volunteers, donors, service providers, businesses, and others, United Way is creating HOPE for Windham County by investing in health, opportunity, prosperity, and education initiatives. We partner with anyone who cares about our shared outcomes and believes they have a role to play in improving the lives of those who live or work in Windham County. Our poverty alleviation activities include the USDA Summer Food Service Program (in collaboration with the Hunger Council of the Windham Region), our Kids in Coats Fund, which provides winter outerwear to income-eligible families, our two free tax assistance services, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and MyFreeTaxes.com, and our United@Work initiative, which works to increase the financial stability of local employees through workplace-based supports and services.

For our free income tax assistance services, the VISTA member will be a key liaison to business partners, the community, and service providers to increase utilization of these services among the income-eligible. For the Summer Food Service Program, the VISTA member will become a member of the Hunger Council subcommittee and help plan/implement a kick-off event, increase resources for the program, and deepen our network of summer food collaborators.
