SerVermont - Home Share Now
 
 
 
Home Share Now facilitates shared housing, most often between seniors and the financially insecure. Instead of market rent, services and/or a stipend are provided by vetted home seekers. Working-age adults gain affordable housing and financial independence while aging adults are able to maintain their housing safely. All people are welcome to participate but the majority (both providers and seekers) are low income and 50 or older. Home Share Now directly contributes to safe aging, independence, improved health, financial solvency, prevention of homelessness, and affordable housing by tapping into our greatest resource: other people. Our mission, Home Share Now expands the possibilities for living. Vermont is an expensive place to live and the tight rental market only exacerbates the cost of living for renters. To alleviate the pinch, Vermont needs additional affordable rentals – Home Share Now created 99 housing units in 2017 by maximizing existing housing stock. 31% of all home seekers last year provided services and paid $0 in rent with an average rent of $290/month. Below-market rents saved 158K in rent for home seekers while home providers benefited from 12,125 hours of service, a savings of 136K. With home sharing, seniors of highest need saved 354K in nursing home diversion in one year. In one year, Home Share Now secured housing for 9219 nights – that’s 25+ years of housing. 100% of matched participants experience economic benefits thanks to home sharing. 32% of matched home sharers reported saving up to $399/month with 41% saving $400+/month. Home Share Now is a strategy to avoid or address living in poverty. Money saved as a result of home sharing is applied to home heating, dental and medical care, debt, education, transportation, property taxes, new savings accounts, and food expenses.

Member Duties : You will serve side-by-side with Home Share Now’s Executive Director and get your fill of persuasive writing, ad design, social networking, donor research, and nonprofit management. Specific tasks: oversee the 5th Annual Online Auction, prepare municipal requests, present to civic organizations, participate in an annual campaign, research and write grants, design social media, advertising, and marketing elements, and utilize a donor management system. As a result, in one year we will provide general housing assistance to at least 600 persons, enroll at least 150 of them, and support 100+ people in matches. Increased capacity thanks to A*VISTA members will support the ongoing utilization of best practices in direct service to include interviews, references, employment verification, a background screening, introductions, a trial period, written agreements, and follow-up support.
