SerVermont - Home Share Now

Home Share Now facilitates shared housing, most often between seniors and the financially vulnerable. Instead of market rent, vetted home seekers provide services and/or a stipend. Working-age adults gain affordable housing and financial independence while aging adults are able to maintain their housing safely. All people are welcome to participate but most (both providers and seekers) are low-income and 50 or older. Home Share Now directly contributes to safe aging in place, independence, improved health, financial relief, prevention of homelessness, and affordable housing by tapping into our greatest resource; other people. The Home Share Now mission is to expand the possibilities for living. Living in Vermont is expensive and a tight rental market only worsens the cost of living for renters. Vermont needs additional affordable rentals – Home Share Now does its part by creating 106 housing units in 2018, maximizing existing housing stock. In 2018, 24% of our home seekers only provided services paying $0 rent. Those who paid rent averaged $297 a month, saving over $189K in below market rental expenses. In one year, Home Share Now secured housing for over 8,900 nights – that’s 25+ years of housing. 100% of matched participants experience economic benefits thanks to home sharing. On average over the last five years, over 750 people per year are served by Home Share Now.
