Increasing Food Justice in Rural North Carolina

For over 25 years, The Conservation Fund’s Resourceful Communities program has supported a network of 500+ community organizations across North Carolina, working to achieve lasting economic, social justice and environmental impacts. Through our food-related initiatives, we partner with grassroots community organizations to: promote more just food systems, increase healthy food access, support limited-resource farmers, develop food-related economic opportunities and help faith communities address root causes of hunger. The goal of this VISTA project is to increase awareness, understanding and action to address root causes of inequities in food access, food choice, nutrition, and hunger, particularly in rural communities. The VISTA member will research existing policies and practices at the local, state and national levels that lead to food inequities and develop appropriately accessible materials and trainings to grow awareness, understanding and community actions/responses.
