VIP - Literacy Coordinator (UCCL)
 
 
 
This position is part of the VISTAs in the Piedmont (VIP) program sponsored by United Way of the Piedmont. Union County Carnegie Library serves as a community hub in Union, SC. The library is involved in the Public Health Indicators Taskforce and partners with SC Works, United Way, Union County First Steps, and the Union County School District to provide literacy services for the community. As our VISTA, you will design and implement a program to improve early childhood literacy for children under 5 years of age. You will also seek out funding, collaborative partnerships, and volunteers to assist with program implementation. The VIP program offers a unique approach to VISTA service, as you will spend 10% of your time each week working collaboratively with 19 other VISTA members placed in the community to research and implement community-wide solutions focusing on either increasing access to behavioral healthcare or increasing financial stability. Member Duties : VISTA will research and develop a literacy program to improve early childhood literacy rates. VISTA will assess program needs and recruit volunteers and community partners to implement program. VISTA will design and implement an assessment tool to evaluate the effectiveness of the literacy program. VISTA will create a literacy resource guide. VISTA will identify gaps in literacy resources in the community. VISTA will research and apply for funding for additional literacy resources to close the gaps identified.
