Reading & Math, Inc. - Volunteer Project Specialist (MAVA)

Reading & Math, Inc. is a growing statewide organization that addresses critical gaps in educational achievement and economic opportunity by engaging over 1,750 AmeriCorps members to serve in three programs: Reading Corps, Math Corps, and Minnesota Opportunity Corps. Given the large scope and statewide nature of our programs, we have seven regional offices which support the day-to-day work of the programs. In 2015-16, our three programs hosted members in preschool centers, elementary and middle schools, and community-based organizations serving nearly 40,000 individuals. Our RMI VISTA project focuses primarily on developing an innovative, new statewide volunteer model focused on short-term and one-time volunteer opportunities to complement our existing programming and increase reading and math literacy engagement of students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. By joining our team of dedicated and passionate staff, many of whom have prior National Service experience, the VISTA Volunteer Project Specialist will be able to work across regions and departments to build solid skills in project management and program design. The primary service location will be located in Minneapolis, MN, however, the member will have opportunity to visit each of our seven regions to better understand the unique needs of these communities.

Member Duties : The Reading & Math, Inc. VISTA Volunteer Project Specialist will take the lead in expanding our redeveloped volunteer model for Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps. This model will focus on short-term or one-time volunteer opportunities to take place at our school-based sites. The VISTA member will begin by assessing the needs of program partners across the state in order to schedule and coordinate one-time or short-term volunteer events at our school based sites. As the project continues, the Volunteer Project Specialist will refine and develop new resources for members, staff, and sites to support the volunteer model. The VISTA Volunteer Project Specialist will also be tasked with improving a system to enter and track volunteer data to better measure impact and assess areas for improvement.
