VIP - Outreach Coordinator (SCDC)
 
 
 
This position is part of the VISTAs in the Piedmont (VIP) program sponsored by United Way of the Piedmont. The Spartanburg County Detention Center, located in Spartanburg, SC, is committed to reducing recidivism through innovative programs that address the root causes of criminal behavior. As our VISTA, you will connect the inmate veteran population with military benefits, community resources, and Veterans Treatment Court. You will create and update a Veterans' Transitional Resource Guide to ease transition back into the community. The VIP program offers a unique approach to VISTA service, as you will spend 10% of your time each week working collaboratively with 19 other VISTA members placed in the community to research and implement community-wide solutions focusing on either increasing access to behavioral healthcare or increasing financial stability.

Member Duties : As a VISTA, you will: Create tools and resources that supports veterans: identify their charges, and length of stay at the detention center; Research veterans' services in the community and create a resource guide; Develop collaborative relationships with veterans' service providers; Create a data collection tool to track utilization of community resources by released inmates; Create a process to select and guide candidates through Veterans Treatment Court; and Research, design, and implement a volunteer and data collection database.
