VIP - Healthy Eating Active Living Outreach Specialist (PAL)
 
 
 
This position is part of the VISTAs in the Piedmont (VIP) program sponsored by United Way of the Piedmont. Partners for Active Living is the convener of Eat Smart Move More Spartanburg, which seeks to transform Spartanburg County, SC into a vibrant, healthy, connected community. You will help improve childhood obesity rates by supporting the Healthy Schools Initiative, working with school wellness coordinators to implement evidence-based interventions in high-poverty schools. You will also expand school partnerships and develop a volunteer program to assist in these efforts. You will support Eat Smart Move More Spartanburg by developing additional partnerships and promoting low and no cost health and wellness resources. The VIP program offers a unique approach to VISTA service, as you will spend 10% of your time each week working collaboratively with 19 other VISTA members placed in the community to research and implement community-wide solutions focusing on either increasing access to behavioral healthcare or increasing financial stability.

Member Duties : VISTA will locate and recruit new partner organizations to support Eat Smart Move More Spartanburg. VISTA will work with school and community partners to outline opportunities for active living and healthy eating, determine the most effective way of distributing the information, and publish and distribute. VISTA will collaborate with community partners to evaluate body mass index collection procedures and review / revise the process. VISTA will research, plan, and implement a volunteer program to serve Eat Smart Move More and the Healthy Schools Initiative.
