MDCCC Growing for a Healthy Future Program
 
 
 
The Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for project implementation within the Center for Coastal and Watershed Studies to support the Growing for a Healthy Future Program, a program which will provide fresh fruits and vegetables to low income families in our region. The specialist will initiate, organize, and manage an effort to involve the interfaith community of Frederick County in growing garden vegetables for local, low income families. This position will be responsible for community relations, facilitating external and internal communications, and planning, organizing, and implementing project events and activities.

Member Duties : • Initiate and administer a partnership between Hood College and the local interfaith community to provide fresh produce for families in need; emphasis will be placed on a needs assessment, recruitment of community members, initiation of gardening activities, and assessment of strategies for sustainable growth of the program. • Promote and coordinate program-related events such as gardening workshops and demonstrations, food distribution strategies, and cooking/canning activities for community members. • Actively develop the program through partnerships with the faith-based community, other non-profits, and businesses in the region. • Actively promote and showcase community gardening activities occurring within the faith-based community of Frederick and assist in developing, marketing, and executing related events. This can take the form of news releases; on-line posts through social media, the Center’s web site, or blog posts; and on-line videos.
