NECHAMA - Disaster Volunteer Engagement Leader (MAVA)
Working with NECHAMA’s local and national staff, the VISTA member will expand our capacity to help individuals and communities affected by disaster. You will evaluate our current disaster volunteer training program to determine its effectiveness, and ultimately make it your own by conducting research and evaluation of similar training programs, applying these best practices, and developing systems to track training and recruited volunteer activities. You will build relationships throughout the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota to recruit potential volunteers, pilot the revamped volunteer trainings, and cultivate volunteer trainers in order to increase our training capacity. You will also develop sustainable best practices for volunteer recruitment and engagement both during disasters as well as when we are not deployed, make recommendations for tracking data including volunteer recruitment and retention rates, oversee practical implementation of best practices and policies, and evaluate results. You will also have ample opportunity to learn more about NECHAMA’s programming and impact. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to learn more about the disaster response field! You will be a key member of our team, joining work groups, attending meetings, and participating in applicable trainings and professional development opportunities. We offer great benefits including rental assistance of $100/month, a complementary JCC (think YMCA) membership, paid travel, cell phone reimbursement of $40/month, professional development, and time off for Federal and Jewish Holidays.

Member Duties : NECHAMA – Jewish Response to Disaster is a voluntary organization that provides natural disaster preparedness, response, and recovery services nationwide. Our work is rooted in the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam ("repairing the world through acts of kindness"). We offer help to all people affected by disaster on the basis of need regardless of religious affiliation. We also welcome anyone willing to volunteer and serve others to join us. NECHAMA’s AmeriCorps VISTA member will evaluate and revamp our volunteer program with a focus on volunteer training and engagement in the Twin Cities area and Greater Minnesota as well as nationally during natural disasters. The goal is to increase the capacity of NECHAMA to respond to disaster events both locally and nationwide through recruitment and retention of a large pool of trained, capable volunteers. Applications are viewed on a rolling basis through May 19th.
